Measure Twice :: January 2012
Anyone who has been around a carpenter for any length of time knows the phrase, “measure twice, cut once.” That may be a good description of our status on the new Discipleship Center. There is a lot of planning that goes into a project of this size and our Building Committee, architect, engineers, contractor and staff are working hard to refine the schematic floor plans and investigate value engineering options. Every effort is being made now to ensure that as we move into construction we do not pile up change orders which will drive up costs. Careful planning on the front end of all design aspects means a smooth and efficient building process.

To give you a sense of schedule, we will have an updated set of floor plans and a revised cost projection to confirm that we are on budget by the end of February.

Expect to see the portable buildings leave the campus by April. Then our architect will create all the construction blueprints needed, we will secure building permits from Metro and final pricing from the contractor. That puts us moving dirt and starting construction of the Discipleship Center in May.

It will be exciting to see the Discipleship Center being built and we desperately need additional space to continue to serve our members and guests.

Know that over the next few months, though things may seem quiet on the surface, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Thank the members of our Building Committee for the countless hours they have and continue to invest. And check back here for the latest news on this project!

A Note From the Co-chairs :: December 2011

Starting in February, we began working with a steering committee for this campaign. Then over the next eight months this committee spent countless hours sharing the vision for this project and communicating the real needs of our growing congregation.

Over the next several months the work shifts away from our committee and to the building committee who will work with our architects, engineers and contractors to refine design, make construction blueprints and get competitive bids for construction. That work is expected to take several months and it appears that we will be moving dirt in late spring or summer.

Finally, our Expanding God’s Kingdom campaign total stands at $4,097,080 today for which we are very grateful. Please know however that the need is even greater than that – and that our desire is to pay off debt as quickly as possible. So if you have been praying about joining with us in this effort please make the decision to do so. Your contribution is important and will help reduce debt which further enables ministry. Again, thanks for your support – we really can accomplish great things when we pull together!

With excitement and thanksgiving,

Expanding God’s Kingdom Co-Chairs
