Big Faith in Hard Times

LESSON DATE & SCRIPTURE: NOV. 16 | BOOK OF HABAKKUK

Memory Verse: 2 Chronicles 7:14 (runs through 11/25/25)

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Talk about it together

If you could ask God a question, what would it be?
Go ahead. He’s listening.

Many things happen in our world that we don’t understand. We all have ideas for how we want life to go, but things don’t always happen the way we expect. Then the questions begin. Will it ever work out? Who decides how things should work out?

Habakkuk had great faith and trust as he brought his questions to God. He lived at a time when evil was everywhere. He struggled to understand why wickedness had taken over God’s people. He prayed for God to stop the evil in Judah, but the people continued to sin. Habakkuk asked why again and again.

God had an answer. Sin would not win forever. God had a perfect plan through his Son, Jesus Christ, to conquer sin and brokenness once and for all. Habakkuk came to understand that God was in control, and he promised to trust him no matter what happened.

God wants us to bring our questions to him too. We can grow the same faith and trust Habakkuk had. God knows all things, sees all things, and plans with great purpose. He is in control and can use hard times to do amazing things. He hears every word on our hearts and speaks truth, wisdom, strength, and peace through his Son, Jesus, who will return to make all things right.

Family discussion

  • Do you believe you can talk directly to God?

  • When things feel uncertain, how can we show faith like Habakkuk?

  • What are you wondering about right now? How can we pray about it together?

Family prayer

Lord, thank you for hearing our prayers. I am grateful that you are in control of all things and you have a perfect plan through Jesus to make all things right and new. Amen.
