Confession of Faith

Heidelberg Catechism, Q & A #1

Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Confession of Sin

Merciful Father, unlike you, we show favoritism - clinging to what is familiar and excluding those you have welcomed. Jesus, forgive our pride and prejudice. Spirit, humble our hearts and teach us to rejoice in your grace that crosses every barrier. Cleanse us of superiority, widen our embrace, and fill us with awe that you grant repentance and life to all who come to you in faith, even those we least expect. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 3:23-24
