Daniel and the Lion’s Den

LESSON DATE & SCRIPTURE: jan. 4 | DANIEL 6

Memory Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (runs through 1/11/25)

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Talk about it together

Daniel was excellent at his work, and King Darius of Babylon noticed his great service. The king put Daniel in charge of the entire kingdom. Other leaders became jealous and convinced the king to make a law that punished anyone who prayed to someone other than him. They did this because they knew Daniel prayed faithfully to God.

Even though he was threatened with punishment, Daniel continued to pray boldly. He was thrown into the lion’s den, but God showed his great power and kept Daniel safe. God protected him in a miraculous way for all the people to see.

Daniel depended on God. He refused to compromise his devotion, even if it cost his life. God protects those who are faithful to him. Most of all, he has rescued us from something far more dangerous than lions. Jesus came to save us from sin and death. He is the one true King and will rule forever.

Family discussion

  • Why do you think Daniel obeyed God rather than King Darius?

  • Is it always easy to obey God? Why or why not?

  • How can your obedience to God point others to his goodness?

Family prayer

Lord, thank you for always being faithful and caring for us. Help us trust that obeying you is always best for us. Amen.
