Talk about it together
Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River. When John baptized him, he showed everyone that Jesus was the one God had promised to send.
Jesus had never sinned, but he chose to be baptized to obey God and to give us an example to follow. He came to help people, teach them to obey God, and show them God’s love.
Baptism is a special way to show that we believe God’s promises and want to follow Jesus. It is a picture of a new life. It reminds us that we turn away from sin and choose to live the way Jesus teaches. It also shows that we belong to God’s family, the church.
Baptism itself does not take away sin. Trusting in Jesus does. When we trust him, we begin a new life, learning to love and follow him every day.
