This week’s guide is designed to help you worship alongside your kids as you participate in the Feb. 1 worship service together.

THEME & SCRIPTURE:
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT | 1 Thessalonians 5:16 | Philippians 2:17–18, 3:1, 4:4 | 1 Peter 4:13

New city catechism question of the week:
Question #5: What else did God create?
Answer: God created all things, and all his creation was very good.

Memory Verse: 1 peter 5:10 (runs through 2/22/25)

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Gather

  1. Minimize distractions - silence devices and bring everyone into one area

  2. Stay comfortable but attentive - Pajamas and blankets are great, but encourage everyone to sit in a way that helps them stay engaged

  3. Create a focal point - light a candle, place a Bible on the table, or set out a small cross to remind everyone this is different from watching television or play time

  4. Invite participation - Let kids help set up the area, pass out Bibles, or press play

  5. Take note - consider using note-taking or drawing supplies to help kids listen during the sermon

Sing

Join in with the online worship service. Quiet voices, loud voices, or listening hearts are all welcome. Your kids sing the Doxology every week in Transformation Station. Encourage them to lead your family at the end of the worship service.

Pray

If it helps, let kids read The Lord’s Prayer from the screen. Or make it fun by seeing how much they can say with eyes closed and hands clasped. They’ve been practicing at church, so today is a great day to encourage them!

God’s Word

Participate: It’s harder to pay attention when the sermon is on a screen and not in-person. Model engagement by taking notes and reading along in your Bible. Point kids to their Bibles and note-taking or drawing pages.

Pause: Older kids may ask great questions during the sermon. Pause the video and talk with them about what they are noticing.

Praise: Encourage kids when you see them listening or engaging.

Point: Share your own engagement with simple comments like “I really liked what Pastor John just said,” or “I’ve never thought about that before.”

Family discussion

  • Who helps us love others?

  • What does loving like Jesus look like in our family?

  • How can we show love today at home or in our neighborhood?

Keep it going

Here are a few additional ideas to keep your family growing in Christ together:

  • Review the New City Catechism question of the week

  • Practice the Kids Ministry memory verse

  • More singing! Here are songs kids love in Transformation Station:

    • I Thank God

    • What an Awesome God

    • Masterpiece

Reminder: YouTube may show ads or suggested videos, so we encourage you to always monitor screen time and use kids’ profiles to help protect your family from unwanted content.

  • Tell your kids you enjoyed worshiping with them—even if it felt a little bumpy!
