Talk about it together
Jesus and his disciples crossed the sea to help a man who was in great trouble. The man was not himself because he was controlled by evil spirits. His life was very sad. He lived alone among the tombs and cried out day and night. People wanted to help him, but nothing they did could make him better.
When Jesus came, the man ran to him and knelt down. Jesus commanded the evil spirits to come out of the man. Right away, they knew that Jesus is the Son of God and has power over everything.
Jesus asked the evil spirits their name. They answered, "Legion," because there were many of them. Nearby, a large herd of pigs was feeding on a hillside. The evil spirits asked Jesus if they could go into the pigs instead. Jesus allowed them to leave the man, and they entered the pigs. The pigs rushed down the hill and into the sea.
The men caring for the pigs ran into town and told everyone what had happened. Soon many people came to see, and they were amazed because the man who had been so troubled was now sitting peacefully and had been completely changed by Jesus.
As Jesus was getting ready to leave, the man asked if he could go with him. But Jesus gave him a special job: "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you." The man obeyed. He went everywhere telling people about Jesus and the wonderful things he had done. Everyone who heard his story was amazed.
Jesus has power over everything, even evil. Nothing is too hard for him. He came to rescue people from sin and give them new life. When we trust in Jesus, he forgives our sins, loves us forever, and is always with us. Like the man in this story, we can tell others about the wonderful things Jesus has done.
