Day 6: Scotland

A day of rest

After several full days of visiting ministry partners, serving alongside Hope Church Leith, and building relationships, today was an opportunity to rest, explore, and simply enjoy being together. The team, along with our college friend Carter, hopped on a bus and headed toward the beautiful town of St. Andrews!

The day included stops in charming Scottish villages and breathtaking scenery comprised of rolling green hills, golf courses, the North Sea, Highland cows, and historic landmarks. Around every corner was another reminder of the beauty of God's creation and the rich history of this part of the world. Brett had the opportunity to get out on the golf course, experiencing firsthand the famous Scottish winds while enjoying the incredible landscape. It was certainly a memorable way to experience golf in the country where the game began. The team also enjoyed a traditional fish and chips lunch together, sharing stories, laughter, and the pleasures of exploring new places with friends. After returning to Leith, half the team slipped into their pajamas for some much-needed rest and relaxation, while the other half ventured out and discovered a lovely little French restaurant in Leith.

There is something that feels a little strange about taking a day for leisure and fun while on a ministry trip. After all, we came here to serve, encourage, and invest in the people of Scotland. But we are reminded that rest, laughter, and fellowship are gifts from the Lord as well. Sometimes stepping away from the schedule gives us an opportunity to appreciate the places we've been called to serve and the people God has placed alongside us.

It was a gift of a day, and we are grateful.

Tomorrow begins Day 7, and we're looking forward to gathering for worship with our brothers and sisters at Hope Church Leith. What a privilege it will be to worship together, united by the same Savior, even though an ocean separates our homes.

We are rested, encouraged, and looking forward to what the Lord has in store!

HOW WE’VE SEEN GOD AT WORK:

  • The gift of rest
After a full week of ministry and relationship-building, the team enjoyed time to slow down and be refreshed.

  • Friendships growing
Shared adventures, meals, and laughter continue to deepen relationships within the team and with Carter.

  • The beauty of God's creation
Exploring Scotland offered another opportunity to enjoy and give thanks for the world God has made.

prayer requests:

  • Sunday's worship at Hope Church Leith - that it would be a meaningful time of worship, fellowship, and mutual encouragement for our team and their Scottish brothers and sisters

  • The relationships formed this week - that these friendships would continue to grow long after our team returns to Nashville

  • Derek, Catriona, and the Hope Church Leith family - that they would be strengthened and encouraged in their ongoing ministry

  • Our team's final days and travels home - for safe travel, good rest, and opportunities to reflect on what the Lord has shown them throughout this week
