Day 1: Uganda
On the move in Uganda
BY BOBBY FREEMAN, MISSIONS DIRECTOR
“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.” — Psalm 25:4
Good morning from Brussels!
After an early start in Nashville yesterday, six hours at Dulles, and an overnight flight, the six Freemans are one long flight away from Uganda! We’re tired, grateful, and asking the Lord to prepare our hearts even here between flights.
Much like our Scotland trip, this is a vision trip. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn, come alongside those already serving, and discern what the Lord might have for West End in Uganda.
A generous donor made it possible for our family to join Garrett and Courtney Davis and their three children, who traveled a day ahead of us. Garrett and Courtney began attending West End when they moved to Nashville two years ago. Garrett’s parents, Sam and Ms. Suzi, serve in Jinja through Global Outreach International, coming alongside Ugandan believers and missionaries through discipleship, care for mothers and babies, hospital ministry, and trauma healing.
For Adrienne and me, this is also a meaningful return. Uganda was one of the first places we traveled together while I served as West End’s youth director in 2012. Two student trips and a multigenerational trip followed. We’re excited to return to a place that helped shape our introduction to global missions and to experience it with our children!
We expect to arrive in Entebbe late tonight, collect our bags, and get some rest before heading to Jinja tomorrow. As we meet people and encounter their stories this week, our prayer is that Jesus would help us see his heart for them and understand how he is inviting us to follow him.
prayer requests:
Safe travel, smooth arrival, all our bags, and refreshing rest
Humble, attentive hearts for the adults and kids alike
Encouragement for Sam and Ms. Suzi and those serving alongside them
The Lord to make his direction clear as we listen and learn
