The Fiery Furnace

LESSON DATE & SCRIPTURE: dec. 7 | DANIEL 3

Memory Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (runs through 1/11/25)

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Talk about it together

The people of Judah turned away from the one true God and began worshiping false gods and idols. King Nebuchadnezzar commanded everyone to bow down to his image or be thrown into a fiery furnace. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused. They loved God and knew that worshiping anyone or anything else was sinful. Their trust in God gave them strength to stand firm in their faith, no matter the consequences.

God alone deserves our worship, and he showed his faithfulness and power by protecting the three men and delivering them unharmed from the fire. This reminds us that we can trust God, even in the middle of trials. God rescues us through his Son, Jesus. Because Jesus followed the Father’s will, we can be forgiven and restored to a right relationship with God. Only Jesus can save us from sin, and his sacrifice on the cross gives us the only path to eternal life.

Family discussion

  • Who did God send to rescue us from our sin?

  • What are some ways we worship God?

Family prayer

Lord, thank you for choosing to be with us always through your Son, Jesus. Help us glorify and worship only you. Amen.
