Talk about it together
As Jesus prepared to celebrate the Passover, he entered the city of Jerusalem. Many people were excited to see him! Jesus went to the temple, a special place where people gathered to worship God and pray. During Passover, families brought a perfect lamb to the temple as a sacrifice for their sins.When Jesus arrived, he saw something that made him angry. People were buying and selling animals and exchanging money inside the temple. Instead of being a place of prayer and worship, the temple had become a marketplace.
Jesus turned over the tables and told the sellers to leave. He reminded everyone that God's house was meant to be a place of prayer and worship for all people. Jesus cared deeply about honoring God and wanted people to remember that worshiping God was more important than buying and selling things.
Today, we no longer need to go to a temple or bring an animal as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus gave his life as the perfect sacrifice once and for all. When we trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. The Bible says our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. That means God is with us wherever we go. We belong to him, and our lives can honor and worship him every day.
