The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind to set the oppressed free.
Talk about it together
Before the Passover feast, Jesus went to a town called Bethany near Jerusalem. He went to the home of his friend Lazarus to share a meal. While Jesus was at the table, Lazarus’ sister Mary came to him. She had a jar of very expensive perfume. Mary poured the perfume on Jesus’ feet and then used her hair to wipe his feet.
One of Jesus’ disciples became angry and said the expensive perfume should have been sold and the money given to help people who were poor. But Jesus told him to leave Mary alone. She had not wasted the perfume. Mary was showing how much she loved and treasured Jesus through her act of worship. Jesus also explained that what Mary had done pointed ahead to his death and burial.
Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and he is more valuable than anything we have. We can show Jesus how much we love him by worshipping him, thanking him, and putting him first. God calls us to treasure Jesus more than anything or anyone else. He is worthy of all our love and praise!
