Talk about it together
Jesus received word that his friend Lazarus was sick. Lazarus was the brother of Mary and Martha, and they lived in the town of Bethany. Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus because they needed him to help their brother. Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus very much, but he did not go right away. While Jesus waited, Lazarus died. Why would Jesus wait when he knew Lazarus was so sick?
Jesus had a special plan. He was going to show everyone God’s power and help them understand who he really is.
When Jesus arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. Martha hurried to meet him and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.” Martha knew Jesus had the power to do something amazing!
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Jesus wanted Martha to know that he is the source of life. Because of Jesus, those who trust in him can have eternal life with God.
Jesus went to Lazarus’ tomb and performed an incredible miracle. He raised Lazarus from the dead! Everyone could see that Jesus has power over death. This miracle showed that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and gives believers hope that death is not the end.
Jesus later died on the cross for our sins and rose again. Because he died and rose again, everyone who trusts in him can have eternal life with him forever.
