Talk about it together

God spoke to Mary through the angel Gabriel and told her she would have a baby. This was not just any baby, but God’s own son. The angel also told her that her cousin Elizabeth was expecting a baby boy. He would be the messenger Malachi spoke about who would prepare the way for the Messiah.

Mary was afraid, and she knew this would not be easy. Still, she was willing to follow God’s plan. God was keeping the promise he made long ago to Abraham, that he would bless the whole world through Jesus. Mary responded with joy and praise.

We can praise God, too. He is good, holy, and full of love. He sent his son, Jesus, to save us from our sins. Jesus showed his love by dying on the cross for us. He took the punishment for our sin and defeated death so we can have life with him forever.

Family discussion

  • Who told Mary she was going to have a baby?

  • Whose son did the angel say the baby would be?

  • What did Elizabeth’s baby do when Mary came to visit?

Family prayer

Lord, thank you for your perfect plan to rescue us through your son, Jesus. You are good and deserve all glory and honor. Amen.
