God’s People Repented
LESSON DATE & SCRIPTURE: Feb. 15 | Nehemiah 8-13
New city catechism question of the week:
Question #7: What does the law of God require?
Answer: That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves.
Memory Verse: 1 Peter 5:10 (runs through 2/22)
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
Talk about it together
Ezra traveled to Jerusalem with a clear purpose: to share God’s Word with the people of Israel. God’s Word is powerful. As the people listened, they began to understand how much they needed him. Their hearts were changed, and they chose to turn away from their wrong choices and honor God.
God’s Word is still powerful today. It teaches us what is right, shows us when we need to change, and helps us follow him. On our own, we cannot live perfectly. But God made a way for us through his son, Jesus, who obeyed God’s law perfectly and gave his life for us. We can trust him for our salvation.
When we sin, we can repent and confess to God, just as the Israelites did. Because of God’s grace and mercy, we are forgiven.
